The International Air Transport Association (IATA) announced that leaders of the global air transport industry are gathering in Dublin, Ireland for the Association’s 72nd Annual General Meeting (AGM) and World Air Transport Summit. SITA’s baggage robot LENDS PASSENGERS A HAND 

Recently, passengers arriving at Geneva Airport received help with their bag drop from Leo, an innovative baggage robot developed by air transport IT provider SITA, which is being trialed outside the airport’s Terminal 1. Leo, a fully autonomous, self-propelling baggage robot has the capacity to check in, print bag tags and transport up to two suitcases with a maximum weight of 32kg. It also has an obstacle avoidance capability and can navigate in a high-traffic environment such as an airport. JET AIRWAYS GROUP DECLARES RECORD ANNUAL PROFIT

Jet Airways Group has declared a highest ever annual profit in its history for the year ended March 31, 2016, and thereby achieved return to profitability a year earlier than the target set in its turnaround plan two years ago. The consistently strong financial performance has enabled Jet Airways to reduce its debt by USD 256 million during FY16. Cost per available seat kilometer (CASK) excluding fuel dropped by 3.2% to 4.96 cents in FY16, clearly indicating Jet Airways’ success in achieving operational efficiencies throughout its business. MTB to be the largest architectural structure in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi Airports announced that the steel structure of the new Midfield Terminal Building (MTB) central processor roof is now complete following the installation of the last piece of metal in the roof of the iconic building. The MTB roof span is 319m at the widest point with 18 arches, the largest of which is 180m wide and 52m high. With the main steel structure of the central processor roof now finished, the next major milestone will be the de-propping of the final arch in the central processor. Strong Passenger Demand Continues

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) announced global passenger traffic results for January 2016 showing demand (revenue passenger kilometers or RPKs) rose 7.1% compared to January 2015. This was ahead of the 2015 full year growth rate of 6.5%. January capacity rose 5.6%, with the result that load factor rose 1.1 percentage points to 78.8%, the highest load factor ever recorded for the first month of the year. “January maintained the strong traffic growth trend seen in 2015, showing the resilience of demand for connectivity despite recent turmoil in equity markets. Andres Conesa New IATA Chairman

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) announced that Andres Conesa, CEO of Aeromexico, has assumed his duties as Chairman of the IATA Board of Governors for a one-year term, effective immediately. Conesa is the first Mexican to hold this position. Conesa succeeds Calin Rovinescu, CEO of Air Canada, whose one-year term expired at the conclusion of the Association’s 71st Annual General Meeting (AGM) and World Air Transport Summit in Miami, Florida.
